PARKING
LOT
ONSEN

An onsen, or Japanese hot spring, was developed atop a parking structure in downtown Vancouver. The typology was transplanted from rural Japan to urban Canada, and celebrated the sight, smell, sound, and feel of British Columbia's local cedar.

Cedar columns were interspersed in a field creating a condition that’s both urban and nature-like at once.

The spacing of the columns enable selective views in and out of the onsen, which remains fully exposed to the exterior elements and surrounding city, just as nude as its inhabitants.
